About novella

Novella is a desktop app that turns a script, novel chapter or prompt into a comic drama video. A lead "director" agent passes work to helpers for script, characters, shots, voice and export. It is very early (v0.0.1) with no published releases, so you build it from source. You need your own API keys, and the docs are in Chinese.

Best for: Tinkerers who want a local desktop app with agents they can extend, and don't mind building it themselves.

• Reads ready-made scripts (.txt, .md, .docx, .json), novel text or a short prompt
• Runs a director agent that hands tasks to script, character, storyboard, sound and video agents
• Lets you add your own agent in the UI with a name, trigger step and system prompt
• Writes character prompts and reference anchors to keep faces the same across shots
• Voices dialogue with free Edge TTS; Azure, CosyVoice and other voice options are still placeholders
• Exports with GPU encoding (Apple VideoToolbox or NVIDIA NVENC) and keeps API keys in your system keychain

   Install Rust 1.80+, Node.js 20+ and pnpm 10+.

   Start the desktop app in dev mode: pnpm tauri dev

   To make an installer, run the command below (or pnpm tauri build; output lands in src-tauri/target/release/bundle/)

   Open Settings → AI Provider and add a key for at least one provider. With no key, a mock provider fakes output so you can test the flow.
