openfilm /openfilm

Lets Claude Code or Codex make a video, then you edit it in a real timeline

About openfilm

OpenFilm turns a coding agent like Claude Code or Codex into a video maker. The agent writes the film as one HTML file, and Studio, a local editor in your browser, shows it as it builds. You can then move, restyle or trim anything by hand or by asking. Voice, music and AI video need your own keys for services like ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Google or fal.

Best for: People who already use a coding agent and want motion-graphics or launch videos they can still fix by hand.

What it does

  • Writes the whole film as one film.html: tracks of pages, footage, pictures and sound
  • Draws each shot as a web page with one frame(t) function, so three.js, canvas, SVG or GSAP all work
  • Studio editor: move, scale and restyle elements, then trim and cut clips on the timeline
  • openfilm look checks every frame twice and flags flicker, failed fonts, missing sound and cut-off text
  • Exports MP4 (up to 4K), GIF, transparent video, subtitles, stems, or a timeline for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve
  • Desktop app for macOS and Windows ships with ffmpeg and the headless browser built in

Quickstart

Rewritten from the README. Check the repo for the latest steps.

  1. 1
Install Node 22.2+ and ffmpeg (and git if you want saved versions in Studio).
  2. 2
Add the skill to your agent: the command below.
    npx skills add openfilm/openfilm
  3. 3
Ask your agent for a film, e.g. "Make a 20-second launch video for my CLI, with music." It opens in Studio as it's made.
  4. 4
No skills support in your agent? Tell it to run npx -y openfilm@latest and follow the manual it prints.
  5. 5
Or skip the setup: download the desktop app from openfilm.dev or the GitHub Releases page.
